Working off state educational grants
Working off a grant is a compulsory employment for graduates who studied under the state educational order, within the period set by clause 17 of Article 47 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan «On Education».
Since 2021, bachelor's, master's and doctoral graduates who studied on a state grant must work in their specialty for at least three (3) years. Employment is allowed in organisations of any form of ownership.
If the obligation is not met, the graduate reimburses the state for training costs in proportion to the period actually studied on the grant.

How long does a grant graduate have to find a job in their specialty?
The university's Graduate Assignment Committee issues the placement order. The graduate must start work on September 1 of the year of graduation.
What's the liability for a graduate who does not get a job in their specialty?
If the working-off obligation is not met, the graduate must reimburse the state for training costs.
In what cases is the state grant exempt from working off?
Working off is not required if the tuition was fully paid, and also in these cases:
- no vacancies in the specialty at the place of residence, work, or spouse's service
- group I or II disability
- admission to master's or doctoral programmes for further study (and after their completion)
- pregnant women and persons with a child under three (including single parents)
- citizens who have completed compulsory military service
