History of Futsal
1930, Uruguay: Juan Carlos Ceriani, a teacher from Montevideo, developed rules for a new indoor game so children could train in sports halls and on basketball courts when football pitches were unavailable.
1980s–1989: the rules were standardised under FIFA, and the first official FIFA Futsal World Championship was held in the Netherlands in 1989.
Rules of Futsal
• Team: five players per side on court—four outfield players and one goalkeeper.
• Duration: two 20-minute halves of effective playing time.
• Ball: smaller than a standard football, size 4, with reduced bounce.
• Substitutions: unlimited and made during play without stopping the match.
• No offside: the offside rule does not apply in futsal.
Futsal in Kazakhstan
1996: the Futsal Association of Kazakhstan was officially established. For many years it operated within the Kazakhstan Football Federation.
Autumn 2022: the Association resumed work as an independent body to support more effective development of the sport.
Kazakhstan’s national team is among the world’s futsal elite.
It holds high positions in the UEFA and FIFA world rankings and is recognised among the leading teams in Europe and worldwide.
