Sports management

Module description

Sports management covers business activities — planning, organisation, leadership, control, budgeting and evaluation — in the context of professional sports and physical activity.

The module develops skills to manage a sports team or the business side of a sports club. Students gain professional experience for leading and promoting sports organisations, managing arenas and stadiums, organising recreational sports events.

Topics: sports facilities management, athlete selection, leadership and personnel management, sports marketing, sponsorship and sales.

Key competencies

  • Management of sports events: organising and running events of various sizes (planning, coordination, marketing, finances)
  • Management of sports organisations: strategy, organisational structure, budgeting, planning and control
  • Sports marketing: marketing strategies, brand management, promotion, communication
  • Financial management in sports: key financial indicators, analysis and planning of financial flows, managing the organisation's budget
  • Personnel management in sports: team formation, recruitment, training, motivation and performance evaluation
  • Legal aspects of the sports business: laws, rules and regulations related to organising sports events
  • Sports analytics: working with audience, performance and financial data to inform decisions

Sports psychology

Module description

Sports psychology is the science of the psychological laws of sport: the peculiarities of mental processes, properties and states in athletes, and problems of personality and team dynamics in sport.

Athletes and coaches are visible at the front, but sports psychologists work behind the scenes helping athletes cope with mental challenges that might hold them back. The psychological aspects of sport are just as important as the physical ones.

The programme focuses on practical application so graduates acquire the skills to make a difference for athletes, coaches, parents and other stakeholders — empowering them in sport and driving change.

  • Understanding the psychological processes and phenomena associated with athletic achievement
  • Analysing and evaluating the psychological factors that affect performance, health and well-being of athletes
  • Designing and applying programmes for athletes' psychological preparation for training and competition
  • Working with teams and building team spirit in sports squads
  • Designing psychological support programmes for athletes during injury and recovery
