The Kazakh National University of Sports has joined the global network of IOC Olympic Studies Centres

All news

The Kazakh National University of Sports, established by the instruction of the Head of State, has received recognition from the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Studies and Research Centre and has joined the international community of universities that study the Olympic Movement, its heritage, and its impact on society.

An important condition for the recognition of an academic Olympic research center is official support from the National Olympic Committee. KNUS and the NOC of Kazakhstan are already implementing joint projects in the field of Olympic education, science, and the promotion of Olympic values.

Today, universities around the world are researching the history, values, and impact of the Olympic Movement on education, culture, and society. Now, Kazakhstan has appeared on this academic map.

The Kazakh National University of Sports (KNUS) has received official recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Studies and Research Centre and has joined the global Academic Olympic Studies and Research Centre network.

Academic centers within the network conduct research and teaching on Olympic topics, organize scientific events, publish research, and create new knowledge about the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement. It is through the university environment that the Olympic agenda extends far beyond sports arenas into education, science, culture, and public discourse.

The Center for Olympic Studies, Education, and Heritage is being developed at the Kazakh National University of Sports. Its task is to make Olympic topics a part of modern sports science and education: to research the history and development of the Olympic Movement, Olympic values, and the legacy of the Games, as well as to create a platform for dialogue between students, faculty, researchers, and the professional sports community.

Joining the international network gives the university the opportunity to interact with academic centers in other countries and to exchange research and educational practices. The development of cooperation and exchange between such centers is explicitly designated as one of the goals of the international Olympic Studies and Research Centre network.

Today, there are about 80 academic Olympic research centers in the world operating at universities and supporting the development of Olympic education and scientific research. Kazakhstan has become the first country in Central Asia to receive such high recognition from the IOC.

For Kazakhstan, the emergence of its own center in this system means the opportunity not only to study global experience but also to shape its own scientific agenda within the Olympic movement.

We remind you that the Kazakh National University of Sports was created by the instruction of the Head of State as a strategic platform for training a new generation of specialists in the sports industry. Today, the university unites education and sports science, medicine and rehabilitation, digital technologies, and other key areas, forming a comprehensive ecosystem for the development of modern sports in Kazakhstan.
