Current, interim and final certification
Procedure for conducting current academic performance assessment of students
Current academic performance assessment of students includes the evaluation of knowledge during in-class and out-of-class activities. The current performance assessment (admission rating) is calculated based on the results of ongoing assessments conducted during in-class and out-of-class activities, as well as midterm assessment results.
The timing, number, and procedure of midterm assessment are carried out in accordance with the academic calendar.
The procedure for organizing and conducting current academic performance assessment of students is determined by the Academic Policy of the KNUS approved by the Academic Council of the KNUS.
Students’ academic achievements across all types of assessment (current assessment and interim attestation) are evaluated using a point-rating letter grading system, with conversion to the traditional grading scale.
Students’ academic achievements in languages (foreign language, Kazakh, Russian) are assessed in accordance with the level-based model of language proficiency using the appropriate scale.
Procedure for conducting interim assessment of students
Interim assessment of students is carried out in accordance with the academic calendar, the working curriculum, and academic programs developed on the basis of the State Compulsory Education Standard (SCES).
The form of examination for each academic discipline is determined independently by the faculty members and program coordinators and is specified in the course syllabus.
The organization and conduct of interim assessment (examination session) of students are carried out by the Registrar’s Office.
Only students who have an admission rating of at least 50 points on a 100-point rating scale are allowed to take the interim assessment.
After completion of the examination for each discipline, a final grade is awarded to the student, which includes passing admission rating scores (50 points and above) and the results of the interim assessment.
The current performance assessment accounts for 60% of the final grade for the discipline, while the examination grade accounts for 40%.
Procedure for conducting the final state attestation
Final attestation of undergraduate students is conducted in the form of writing and defending a diploma thesis (project) or taking a comprehensive examination. The comprehensive examination program reflects integrated knowledge and key competencies demanded by the labor market in accordance with the higher education program.
Final attestation of students of KNUS is conducted in the forms established by the State Compulsory Education Standard (SCES). The duration and schedule are defined by the academic calendar, working curricula, and educational programs of KNUS.
Students with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.5 and a demonstrated research interest are admitted to writing and defending a diploma thesis (project). In this case, the student has the right to submit an application addressed to the Rector by the end of April of the preceding academic year. At the same time, a student with a GPA of at least 3.5 may choose to undergo final attestation in the form of a comprehensive examination. In all other cases, students undergo final attestation in the form of a comprehensive examination.
Diploma theses (projects) are checked for plagiarism.
The list of major disciplines included in the comprehensive examination is reviewed by the Academic and Methodological Council and approved by a decision of the Academic Council of KNUS based on submissions from the departments of educational programs.
A graduating student who has failed to meet the requirements of the educational program, individual study plan, and working curricula is retained for a repeated year of study without attending the summer semester.
